How do I get my photo under 50 KB without ruining it?

Is my photo uploaded to your server?
No. Compression happens entirely inside your browser using its built-in image engine. Your photo never leaves your device — there is nothing to upload, and nothing for us to store.
What formats can I compress?
JPG, PNG and WebP input. Output is JPG (works everywhere) or WebP (smaller, supported by all modern browsers and portals). PNG output isn't offered because PNG can't hit small size targets for photos.
The 50 KB sweet spot for form photos
50 KB is the classic passport-size photo limit. You'll see it on visa applications, and on competitive-exam and recruitment portals — SSC, UPSC, banking and railway forms in particular tend to cap the candidate photo at exactly 50 KB. It's tight enough to force real compression but generous enough that a properly cropped headshot still looks clean.
What quality to expect
A standard passport-style headshot fits comfortably into 50 KB with good clarity, provided it's cropped to the face and shoulders rather than left as a full-scene photo. The tool finds the best JPEG quality under the cap automatically; for most portrait photos that lands in a range where skin tones and edges stay smooth and natural.
Getting an accepted photo the first time
- Match the required proportions. Most exam portals want a roughly 3.5×4.5 cm ratio — crop to that before compressing so the tool spends its quality budget only on pixels you'll keep.
- Use even, front-on lighting. Harsh shadows add detail that eats file size and often fails photo checks.
- Watch the minimum too. Some forms demand between, say, 20 KB and 50 KB. If yours has a floor, don't compress below it — aim just under the ceiling.
